Benjamin Britten's Nocturne as well as his Four Sea Interludes and Passacaglia from the opera Peter Grimes are heard on this LP. Britten himself conducted the London Symphony Orchestra for the recording of the Nocturne, his song cycle in honor of Alma Mahler.
Darkness and sleep are the themes of the composition, which features tenor, flute, cor anglais, clarinet, bassoon, harp, horn, timpani and strings. Peter Grimes is an opera by Britten in three acts, recorded here by Peter Pears with the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, that negotiates the gripping and mysterious story of a fisherman on the east coast of England. Bernie Grundman has remastered the original analog master tapes for ORG.
The 180g vinyl LP is released as a double 45 in a luxurious gatefold cover in a limited edition with consecutive serial number.
