<p>The second son by Johann Sebastian Bach's first wife, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was a prolific and often original composer by the conservative standards of the times. Admired by Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, he developed the style known as <i>empfindsamer Stil</i> (sensitive style), which was remarkable for unconventional and quirky harmonies, emotional intensity and a fine command of melody. With their sudden changes of mood and pace, the <i>Sonatas</i> and <i>Rondos</i> are in many ways more forward-looking than those of Haydn and Mozart. Another selection of C.P.E.
