The studio session that
Donald Byrd and
Bobby Jaspar recorded for the French radio-television program 'Jazz aux Champs-Elysées' was created during a stay of several months in Europe by Byrd in 1958. During this time, the modern jazz trumpeter led a top-class quintet with which he performed at festivals in various countries, including the Parisian jazz club 'Au Chat Qui Pêche' in the Rue de la Huchette. The club quickly became a regular venue for the musicians and brought them into contact with French radio, which invited them to sessions in November and December.
