Frank Woeste originally trained as a classical pianist and organist. He discovered jazz at age 16 and never looked back. Woeste has won several prizes at national and international competitions for jazz and improvised music, including first prize at Jazz à Mennecy in 1998, first prize at the Concours Charles Trenet in 1999 and second prize at the Montreux International Solo Piano Competition in 2003. Double You, Woeste s debut album for World Village, is inspired by the dualities in life and music. This recording explores the balance between melody and harmony, composition and improvisation.
