<br><br>Earl Wild (1915 - 2010) was without doubt one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. His immense repertoire, his staggering virtuosity, his warmth and his charm deserve him the epithet legendary.<br /> <br /> Wild was a great improviser as well, and he frequently played his<br /> own fantasies in his concerts. Fortunately he wrote these<br /> wonderful pieces down, and his creative legacy contains a<br /> wealth of transcriptions, fantasies and paraphrases, as well as<br /> original piano works.<br /> <br /> This release is the first of a complete recording of these works. It<br /> contains his brilliant “Virtuoso Studies” on songs by Gershwin, an intimate transcription of the adagio from Marcello’s Oboe<br /> Concerto, the tongue-in-cheek rendering of a Bach Chorale in the style of Poulenc, the Larghetto from Chopin’s 2nd Piano Concerto, and Wild’s own Piano Sonata.<br /> <br /> Fun, glitter, contemplation and passion: it’s all here in the wonderful playing of young Italian pianist Giovanni Doria Miglietta!
