British cellist Jacqueline du Pré was considered extraordinarily gifted. Her fame was established by a 1965 recording, when the then 20-year-old recorded Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto with Sir John Barbirolli and the London Symphony Orchestra. Two years later she married conductor Daniel Barenboim, with whom she also recorded Dvorak's Cello Concerto here with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1970
Kazuo Kiuchi's XRCD24 gives the original Angel Records production the remastering (together with Tohru Kotetsu and Shizuo Nomiyama) it deserves. And in doing so, honors an artist whose career ended far too soon due to multiple sclerosis and who died at the age of only 42. The recording was made in November 1970 at Chicago's Medinah Temple.
