The Qawwali-Flamenco project arose from a proposal: to connect two major vocal expressions - one alluding to the relationship of the human with the divine, the other being the connection between one human being and another - by way of powerful lyrics underpinned by dance rhythms and hand-clapping. As such, the musical results range from songs of suffering and sorrow to those of pleasure and delight.<br /> Three outstanding vocalists took part: the Qawwali singer Faiz Ali Faiz, accompanied by his group; and singers Miguel Poveda and Duquende, accompanied by Catalan flamenco guitarist Juan Gomez 'Chicuelo'. All the singers and musicians readied themselves for this exchange of views under the direction of Martina A. Catella. This show, initially created in 2003 in Barcelona, was released as a double disc and also as a single DVD in 2006. All copies have since sold out. Building on that earlier success, Faiz Ali Faiz returns to the stage this year, teaming up again with the rhythms and inimitable chords of flamenco guitarist Chicuelo. The two artists go further into the adventure with a special guest, the renowned 'Cantaora' Carmen Linares, and a group of musicians gathered<br /> specially for the occasion.<br /> In this second instalment, presented in preview at the Saint Denis Basilica (Festival of Saint-Denis, Seine-Saint-Denis, France) on June 27 and at the Barbican (London, UK) on October 6, the vibrant, raw force of flamenco goes back to basics and merges with Indo-Pakistani qawwali trance.<br /> On this occasion, Accords Croisés is pleased to reissue the double CD so as to enable the discovery or reliving of the best moments of this rich adventure. A meeting at great depth combining tradition, open minds, creativity and virtuosity.
