<p>Sir Peter Maxwell Davies's <i>Second Symphony </i>is his ‘<i>Sea Symphony</i>', a complex, virtuosic work that explores in absorbing, increasingly dynamic fashion, the ocean's proximity and what the composer calls ‘the architecture of its forms'. Both themes and orchestration are masterly.
